Why does it seem like there is no real interest in mentoring students who will be specializing in process improvement?
What suggestions to you have for someone who is seeking to break through the veil and find a serious mentor?

I understand that there are quite a few people who are able and willing to mentor young and aspiring process improvement career seekers and professionals.
That is exactly why I am here to share my experiences and guide those who seek this path. I am currently a board member of the Association of Business Process Professionals (ABPMP) International in the United States.
I am open to mentoring anyone - irrespective of age, gender or ethnicity. Just be willing and available.
Kindly reach out to me if you need any assistance or support.

LinkedIn is a fantastic tool for finding professionals eager to mentor. It's wonderful that you're looking for a mentor, as continuous improvement is vital for process efficiency and involves many aspects. Consider reaching out to local plants to see if they offer mentorship or internships in this area. Networking is your greatest asset; the more people you connect with, the better your chances of finding a dedicated mentor. You're making a smart choice by diving deeper into process improvement!
Also, secondary thought here, you may be able to reach out to local or online schools that offer these types of certificates and gather some details on potential leads, possibly even just from scanning through their online details.

Continuous improvement is important for every organization. Some prioritize it highly, while others are just beginning. However, it's a focus area for all sooner or later.
This process involves tools to boost efficiency, quality, and productivity. Key tools include:
- PDCA
- Six Sigma
- Lean
- Kaizen
- TQM
- Benchmarking
- Root cause analysis/8Ds
- Gemba walks
- Poka Yoke
- Balanced scorecard
Some companies encourage everyone to engage in continuous improvement. Others have dedicated teams to implement standard tools, promote collaboration, train staff, monitor progress, engage stakeholders, and foster a culture of improvement.
Professionals to connect with for insights include:
- Continuous Improvement Manager
- Process Improvement Manager
- Operational Excellence Manager
- Lean Manager
- Quality Assurance Manager
- Value Stream Manager
- Director of Manufacturing
- Process Engineer
When reaching out on LinkedIn or other platforms, introduce yourself and express your interest in learning from their experience. If successful, use mentoring sessions to discuss specific topics like Six Sigma tools. Share an agenda in advance to help your mentor prepare.
Key tips for mentorship:
- Schedule regular sessions for continuity.
- Build a strong personal relationship with your mentor for open communication.
- Be flexible with scheduling.
- Stay persistent if you face scheduling challenges. If needed, seek another mentor with a similar background.
Mentorship requires effort and patience, but the rewards are worth it. Keep going!
