Hi Aymardria. Thanks for this very helpful question.
In my opinion, the only scholarship that is guaranteed is the scholarship where you don't have to compete for it :).
In general, there probably aren't many, if any, guaranteed scholarships. If you will allow me to insert just a little bit of math here..."guaranteed"=100% sure that you will get a certain scholarship. Really what you want to consider is "what are the odds that I get this scholarship"? In general, the more money that is being offered, the more students that will apply, which makes it a more competitive scholarship, which makes the odds lower on getting it. That doesn't mean there aren't some good strategies to use on getting scholarships...
Consider the following:
1) What types of scholarships are you applying for and why?
2) Are there essays involved for the scholarship application? If yes, consider sharing your essays with people you trust and incorporate their feedback. I have found that the more I write, the better I get at it..just like anything else...practicing makes us better.
3) Are the scholarships based on financial need or desired course of study? Sometimes there are less applicants for these types of scholarships which can improve your odds.
4) When you research the criteria for the scholarships, do they make sense to you?
5) Is the scholarship intended to be given to more than one student?
Hope these thinking points are helpful to you. Giving yourself the appropriate amount of time could also be helpful. Applying for scholarships can be challenging but it can also be rewarding especially if you get a positive response. And these exercises in applying can also be helpful for when it is time for you to apply to colleges.
Best of luck to you!
