Hi Nina,
Actually my degree was in marketing. While it sounds like it would apply to the positions I held in fashion retail, my learning was hands on. I moved up from lower management to higher positions in department stores before I landed in my favorite position as Brand Consultant. I held different titles with the various designers/brands I worked for, but the job description was the same. My favorite part was when I got to go to the New York showroom. I'd learn the line from the designer and the design team. I also got to sit in on market appointments with buyers for the accounts/stores I called on in my area, Chicago. I will say I have seen the fashion design degree work directly in a showroom in Chicago selling bridal gowns. My colleague knew the ins and outs of alterations, which were vital in selling the gowns and her knowledge helped us all. I've also worked in custom clothing and the design degree was just as applicable. You'll do well! Laura

Iris’s Answer

Hi there!

I have a bachelor's degree in administration and a master's in negotiation. I've worked in the automotive industry for almost 10 years. When I turned 30, I decided to explore other fields and got a luxury certification from a school in France.

My favorite part was visiting fashion and luxury stores, learning about Customer Relationship Management, and seeing how handbags and shoes are made in "ateliers". I also loved hearing from CEOs and industry leaders and learning from their experiences.
