How do you handle the tight deadlines and high pressures of being a character animator?

Hello there! I'm a soon to be college freshmen for character animation, and I've always been fascinated by the animation industry as a whole, especially the behind scenes part of the animation industry. I've seen many a documentary on the ins and outs of working on big name films and characters, but it seems like for a lot of the higher end studios, they place incredibly tight deadlines and guidelines for their animators. How do you manage to create a good work life balance with the pressures of the studios deadlines?

Try to focus on school as much as you can when in college. This is one of the few moments in life when you can explore a subject for long periods at a time. Deadlines are a tricky subject. I am currently a sophomore animation student. What works for me personally is blocking out my days. Ill schedule when certain things should be done within the week. I also don't go out much, I really try to hone my craft. Sometimes that takes the sacrifice of sleep as well. You have to be flexible for this career path. Alongside that, make sure to take your professor's input. The advice you can get from them can really push you in the right direction a lot of the time.

I would personally suggest you schedule yourself to wake up later, as you might be staying up late frequently. So, try to avoid scheduling 8:00 AMs. :)
Thank you comment icon Thankyou so much Lily for your answer! It's really helpful hearing from a student who is going through what I'm about to focus on and commit to for the next few years. I'll remember to start scheduling my days, properly blocking allocated times on projects. As well as keeping what the professors say in the front of my mind when working on pieces going forward. Plus I love sleeping in, so avoiding the 8:00 am classes would be alright with me :D Hope you have a good day and thankyou again! Ava
