Hey Mya!
First of all lemme just say.... welcome to the beautiful, wild, and heart-filled world of healthcare bud! So, You are stepping onto a path that's going to challenge you, grow you, and honestly, change your life (and others') in ways you can't even fully picture yet.
So, Now you ask, what’s the best part about being in the medical field?
Honestly.....It’s the people.
You get this incredible front-row seat to humanity.... the good, the heartbreaking, the miraculous, and even sometimes the ridiculously funny. Trust me, hospital life has no shortage of hilarious moments. Whether you're taking vital signs, calming a nervous patient, or just offering a genuine smile, you become part of someone’s life story — often at their most vulnerable or important moments. That's sacred and That's powerful.
And being a medical assistant puts you right at the heart of it all. You are like the friendly bridge between patients and doctors. You are the steady hand when someone feels scared. You are the reason someone feels seen and heard, not just processed through a system. Of course, like anything beautiful, it’s not all roses and glitter. Some days will be tough. You might be tired. You might face difficult patients and man you will. Sometimes, outcomes won’t be what you hoped, and you have to be ready for that. But those tough days? They’re the ones that shape you into the kind of strong, compassionate professional who makes a real difference. So never fall short, because these hardships are what builds the best of us.
Another sweet part is there’s so much room to grow. Maybe after some time as a medical assistant, you’ll decide you love patient care so much you’ll want to become a nurse, or maybe you’ll fall in love with a specialty like pediatrics, cardiology, or dermatology. There’s no ceiling except the one you set for yourself.
And let's be real for a moment here, scrubs are the most comfortable work uniform ever. It's basically pajamas you get to wear while saving lives. Tell me that's not a win.
You’re embarking on something so meaningful, Mya. You are going to help people heal. You are going to give hope. You are going to inspire trust. And some days, you’ll look around and realize: "Wow... I'm really making a difference."
You have absolutely got this — one patient, one heartbeat, one smile at a time.
If you ever want me to help you brainstorm ideas on where you could specialize later or what skills you might want to focus on during your program, just holler.
And hey, do not forget to celebrate your milestones and ofc even the tiny ones. You are doing something extraordinary. All the best out there Mya.

One of the best parts of working in the medical field is the sense of purpose it brings. As a medical assistant, you are often one of the first people a patient interacts with, and that position carries more impact than many realize. You help set the tone for their entire visit. Whether you’re taking vitals, preparing rooms, assisting with procedures, or simply listening to concerns, you are directly contributing to someone’s care and comfort.
Another rewarding part is being part of a team that works together toward a shared goal, helping people feel better and stay healthy. Healthcare gives you daily opportunities to make a difference in small but meaningful ways. You also gain skills, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for life and resilience. While the work can be fast-paced and challenging, the relationships you build with patients and colleagues, and the knowledge that your role truly matters, are experiences that many professionals in other fields never have.

I've been in the healthcare field for over 26 years but in a non-clinical capacity. I am a Statistician that does a lot of healthcare data analytics. For me, the best part of being in the healthcare field is that evening though I don't have direct patient care, I still feel like I'm making differences in patients' lives. Without data and without the ability of making data driven decisions, it would be very difficult for physicians, insurance companies, care management organizations, etc. to be able to help people.
I also enjoy the healthcare field because of all the different people and personalities that I've come across. Although all vastly different, the common thread that we all have is that we are in it to help people, and to me, that's most important.
