Hi Ana,

It's great that you're thinking ahead and asking important questions. This shows you care deeply about entering the social work field, which is a fantastic start!

Social workers often face burnout because we deal with people in tough situations. It can be emotionally draining, so it's crucial to set boundaries, care for your mental health, and seek support when needed. Another challenge is limited resources, which can make helping difficult. Focus on what you can do, work with a supportive team, and always remember why you chose this path.

As you're finishing your second semester of college, now is the perfect time to prepare:

1) Volunteer or intern with different groups, such as children, older adults, immigrants, or people with disabilities. This will help you find your passion.

2) Enroll in classes like psychology, sociology, and public policy to better understand people and systems.

3) Connect with social workers, professors, or advisors to gain insights and advice.

4) Start practicing self-care now. Learning to manage stress early will benefit you later.

You don't need to have everything figured out right away. Stay open-minded, keep learning, and trust your passion for helping others to guide you.

I'm cheering you on and I am here if you have more questions!

To manage the stress a social work job generates, you will need coping mechanisms to prevent burn-out. You must know how to take care of Your Self. Build a support group, as well.
