How do I pay for college if I do not have a co-signer?

I am college bound. My parents make to much money for me to get financial aide. My parents have bad credit and no money saved for my college. If I can't get a co-signer how do I pay for college.

Hello, Arthur !

Just to make something clear, The Work Study Program is part of Federal Student Financial Aid, which you've stated you don't qualify for this year and is Awarded to students that qualify for Financial Aid. The college doesn't pay you for the work study job, the Federal Student Financial Aid pays for Work Study jobs on campus. I wanted to just clarify that, but try to apply for Federal Student Financial Aid next year to see if things qualify you differently at that time. You apply for Work Study on your Federal Student Financial Aid Application.

That being said, one way you can cut down on expenses until you qualify for Federal Student Financial Aid is to start working and take one or two courses at a less expensive community college in the evenings. Scholarships are a matter of applying and waiting to hear back, but you can increase your chances of obtaining some if you apply for very many, all and every grant and scholarship you qualify for. So it looks like if you can or are up for going to school part time so you may be able to handle the tuition better, consider that an option.

There may be a light at the end of this tunnel, Arthur. Did you know that Heart of Georgia Technical College in Atlanta costs only $3,293 per year ! You can call the college and ask about payment plans. Heart of Georgia Tech does have special payments plans if you can't pay the tuition all at once. If you're not using financial aid, you can pay for tuition and can make payments via cash, check, debit card, or credit card. Just something to keep in mind. You can even pay in installments. Call the college to speak with the Financial Aid Officer as there may be other processes. I would try not to take out any Loans for school as you'll have to pay them back with interest on top but if you speak with one of the financial aid officers, they will need to guide you in person.

I hope this is something that you can look into further and I wish you well !

Hey Arthur!

I'm really proud of you for exploring opportunities for your future. Going to college is awesome for both your social life and finances. Even if money is tight, don't worry—there are tons of scholarships out there. You can find scholarships for academics, sports, and even unique things like being left-handed. Search online to discover scholarships and grants, and start applying now. A great place to begin is https://www.scholarships.com/ for free info and a list of scholarships.
Many schools offer work study programs and there are also state run schools and community colleges that cost a lot less money.
Don't be discouraged and don't give up!
