What is the best way to keep homework and school deadlines organized?

I have used Google calendars, spreadsheets, and even paper calendars, but something always seems to slip through.

Limit the number of tools you use for tracking items. Keep everything in one place to avoid missing anything. Use your phone calendar to add items and set a notification for 1 or 2 days before the due date. This gives you enough time to make changes if needed. Add items right away—don't wait, or you might forget.

Katelyn’s Answer

Hi Bailey! Staying organized in school is challenging but essential. It seems you've explored various methods. When using a calendar, ensure you set reminders to notify you well in advance of due dates, rather than on the same day. Consider exploring task management tools that could assist you. It could be beneficial to review all your deadlines and break them into smaller, manageable groups to avoid missing anything. Continuously assess your organization system and make improvements as necessary.

Colby’s Answer

Hi Bailey, great question!

As someone who also struggles with managing many tasks, I am constantly working to get better at staying organized.

I would pick one method to track your ongoing to-do list and deadlines. I find that having things in multiple places is more likely to lead to something being missed.

Personally, I think that a paper calendar or to-do list is the most effective method. It's something I can touch and feel, cross things off of, and I don't have to login to anything to check what I have coming up.

You might also consider checking your calendar or to-do list on a regular basis. You can be as organized as you want, but if you aren't looking at your deadlines or tasks, it's more likely that something will slip through. Consider checking your calendar each morning, or a few times a week so that it becomes a habit and you're regularly looking at what you have going on.

If you do choose to do something virtual, setting notifications or reminders for yourself can also be helpful.

Hopefully some of this helps you find something that works well. Good luck!

Kendra’s Answer

Hi Bailey,

Even as a working adult, some things slip through for me too! What I find helpful hasn't changed that much.

I still find a to-do list the most helpful, with spots to check off what is done. Take a few minutes RIGHT AWAY to write down what is due when - write it down at the end of every class, or when the teacher says what is due. Then, pick a specific time of day to go through the list: when you sit down to do homework, first thing in the morning, in the evening - whatever works best for you! Look back at anything unchecked. I highlight or star very important things that I might otherwise forget.

Also, if something will take 5 minutes or less, I try hard to just get it done right then.

Hope that helps!

Danny’s Answer

Bailey,

Things that work best for me are routines.

Sounds like you got some great tools pick a time of day every day to review where you are.

Keep it simple so you can get through your list and if you slip as this happens to everyone... Get back to the routine you started.

I wish you the best in your journey... Enjoy the journey!

I've noticed that having a calendar I can see every day (mine's in the kitchen) really helps. The calendars on our phones or computers are okay, but having one out in the open works better for me. Also, try making a list of things to do, either in the evening or first thing in the morning. You'll figure out what works best for you!
