Hey there Jasmine. The first thing that came to mind when I read your question was majoring in Theatre (if that interests you enough) and minoring in Accounting. One of the reasons I say that is there is a need among artists for accountants who understand the nature of arts. You could make a decent income as a CPA (especially during tax season) that would support a career in Theatre. And working as a CPA, you could have a flexible schedule and that pairs extremely well with the crazy hours of Theatre. Just my two cents. Good luck with your journey!

Hi Jasmine.  I also recommend the Mass Comm major and Theater minor.  I was very active in theater in high school and went on to get a BA in Communications with an Art minor.  I've found my degree to very versatile over the past 20 years.  Especially right out of college; a communications degree was applicable to a wider array of jobs.

That said, what are your plans after graduation?  If you have firm plans that involve theater as your primary source of income, that may be a more logical major.  For example, do you plan to teach theater or pursue acting in NYC?  If so, a theater degree may make more sense.  If you pursue acting and are able to get steady work but perhaps in smaller theaters, what type of work would you want to do if supplemental income was needed?  Consider whether a communications degree would be more beneficial in that situation.   If you're still unsure about your plans after college, communications is likely going to give you more options.

Good luck on whichever path you choose!
