What kind of job can I get with a criminal justice associates degree? I am not interested in correctional officer, probation/parole officer, police officer, state trooper or deputy sheriff. I've been doing research but I haven't found anything that I might be interested in yet.

Hi Alberta!

With an associate's degree in criminal justice, you have many exciting career options beyond traditional law enforcement. You could work as a crime scene technician assistant, evidence technician, or legal assistant/paralegal if you get extra certification. Other roles include court clerk, victim advocate, security analyst, fraud investigator assistant, or loss prevention specialist. You might also become a background check specialist, private investigator assistant, or support emergency management. Some jobs might need extra training or certification, but your degree gives you a great start. Think about whether you enjoy investigative support, legal settings, or security roles, as each offers unique daily tasks and growth opportunities.

If you have an associate degree in criminal justice but don't want to be a police officer or trooper, you can seek a different path and consider jobs like paralegal or legal assistant. In this role, you would support lawyers by conducting research, drafting documents, and organizing case files. Another option is a loss prevention officer to stop theft and fraud at a company.

You could also be a private investigator and work for people or businesses. Your degree also prepares you for jobs like a court clerk or court reporter, where you manage court documents and records. Lastly, you could become an insurance fraud investigator to find fake insurance claims.
