Hi journey!

It's wonderful to hear your future plans. There's so many things you can do to earn money and learn business skills.
When my daughter was your age, she started a plant watering business for our neighbors, and it evolved into pet-sitting while neighbors vacationed. She created a one page flyer and gave it to the neighbors and in a short amount of time (less than 2 weeks), she was booked for the summer.
Can you do odd jobs for neighbors? Can you create a website for your community? Are there things you do at home that you could do for neighbors? Are there local farms in your area that could use help with harvest season?
General business skills to learn are how companies make money from customers, getting the right products to the right customers, making profits above your costs and making it easy for customers to buy.
Good luck with your plans. Be creative and persistent. Folks like to do business with ambitious folks with big dreams. Be observant and learn something new everyday!

Hi Journey!

It's fantastic that you have such a big dream of owning your own business. Balancing school and work now will set you up for success in the future. Consider looking for jobs in your community, like babysitting or helping with household tasks. Don't hesitate to ask local stores or small business owners if they need help. Check the hiring age in your state, and keep that positive mindset.

You're going to do amazing things!

Phill’s Answer

Hey Journey,

It is great to hear that you are looking to gain employment in order to save money to move out and start your own business. It is great to get a good work ethic early. I also started working when I was 13 and I can definitely say I still benefit from the skills I learned early on.

The service industry is something I can recommend. It teaches you a lot of realistic skills. Some being communication skills, time management, and how to work with others. If there are restaurant's near you, visit them and see if they are hiring. This might be intimidating at first, but stay confident, share your skills and why you would want to work there.

Eventually, you can gain a higher position and get paid more. This does come with more responsibilities, however, you will gain more skills that will be needed through out life. Some possibilities of a higher position can be a chef or bartender.

Most of all, stay persistent in your search!

Best of luck on your journey!

MANAHIL’s Answer

Hey!

At 13, there are quite a few small jobs you can try out. Things like babysitting, tutoring younger kids, mowing lawns, helping neighbors with chores, or even pet sitting if you like animals.

If you’re good with computers, you can explore easy online stuff too like simple graphic design, video editing, or selling crafts online

Try to focus on learning new skills and saving a little from what you earn. It might not seem like a big deal now, but these habits really help later you’ll already know how to manage money and work responsibly when you’re older.

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. Firstly, please check you can work legally in your country at your age.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Explore any working opportunities in school, eg library, administration, etc
2. Check with your neighbours to see they need any help, eg baby sitting, gardening, etc
3. You can also explore any working opportunities in the neighborhood, eg groceries, education centre, etc.
4. There may be working opportunities in chain stores, eg boutiques, fast food shop, super markets, etc
Your safety is important. Discuss with your parents to ensure the job is suitable for you before starting.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
