Hello!

The job market right now is unpredictable, as someone who graduated college two years ago and is still struggling to find a job I can relate. I have learned that sometimes you have to start at the bottom, even if that includes an entry level job. In my current role, I might not be where I want to be but I am gaining experience that I can use in the future. You have to keep in mind when going to interviews, often times you are up against people with the same degree but have several years of experience. If you are able to live with family or friends at the moment, do so! Take the entry level job and gain all the experience you can. You might even be able to work your way up in the organization.

First, understand that these things take time. Don't fill your mind with self-doubt and other negative thoughts. Visit the college placement center. If you are not getting interviews, you need to review your resume, as well as consider if you are applying for the right type of jobs. You may need to apply for positions one step lower than what you think you are qualified for. Getting your foot in the door - landing that first job, is the key. You can always move on/move up from there.

If you ARE getting interviews, realize you are going up against experienced people. You need someone willing to take a chance with you. That will take time and lots of applications.Review your interview skills with the career placement office.

Homelessness: If you can live at home with parents or other relatives, that's best. Even after you land that first job, because a few months of saved up paychecks will be a big help going forward. If not, and you will truly be homeless - consider joining the military. Or, "car camping." It's something I've just started looking at. It seems that besides the campers, there are many people who live in their cars, and, there are some businesses where they are welcome to stay, such as certain truckstops. Not the ideal thing. There are also homeless shelters. You could also share an apartment with friends and find other jobs, such as waiting tables or tutoring.

While you might feel all alone right now, every year thousands of graduates face the same dilemma. Don't give up on yourself!

If you could tell us your major and the types of jobs you are looking for, it might help to generate more feedback. Thanks, and best of luck!
