Is an Associate of Science worth it?

Are more job opportunities available to someone with an Associate of Science degree who intends to apply to a nursing program? Has anyone gotten a job in healthcare with an Associate of Science, with a benefit of tuition reimbursement for nursing school?

Hello, Patricia !

If you want to become a nurse, the path you would take would be to find a college that offers an Associates Degree in Nursing. You could choose to further it two more years for a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and become a Registered Nurse, either with the Associates or the Bachelors Degree. I advise getting the Bachelors Degree.

There really isn't a Major called "Science". Science is a subject that has many, many specific sub-subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Astronomy, Earth Science, Geology, etc. Those sub-subjects are what colleges offer major programs in.

I am not sure who you are meaning for Tuition Reimbursement - an employer or the college ? Some employers do offer partial tuition reimbursement, often times if you are getting a degree connected to the work you're already employed in. Colleges do not reimburse tuition, however, they do offer scholarships to students, money that can be used for college expenses.

This would be a great time to explore what college is all about and look at some colleges that you can read more about that offer a nursing program. Go to their websites and read about the college and their Nursing Program. Some of these colleges near Anna, TX are: Collin County Community College District in McKinney, TX, Dallas College (El Centro Campus, Dallas, TX), Texas Woman’s University – Dallas Campus, Baylor University – Louise Herrington School of Nursing in Waco, TX, Ana G. Mendez University – Dallas Area, and Arizona College of Nursing – Dallas.

You can also look for presentational videos for these colleges on You Tube before registering for an in person, on campus orientation/tour of the campuses. That is always good for an initial idea of what the colleges look like and a little information about the college.

So, I never heard of anyone getting an Associates Degree in Science and I do not believe that I've ever seen colleges programs for "Science", Explore Nursing Programs if you want to be prepared to become a Nurse. That is what you'd need to major in - Nursing - in order to be a nurse.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best ! Once you know exactly what college you would attend, return here to ask about scholarships and grants that can help you with college expenses. Also mention if you'll be enrolled full time or part time.

Have an awesome day !
