Paul’s Answer

There are several options, that you have, when you obtain a Bachelors in English degree. It is a very flexible degree, which means that you can pursue a career in a variety of fields, including:

* Writing and publishing
* Education an teaching education
* Legal fields, such as a paralegal or legal editor law,
* Communications and marketing
* Journalism or online media careers
* Editor
* Technical writer
* Public relations specialist

Opportunities can also be found in the library sciences, and even fields like technology and finance

One example I can give is one of my students, who was an English major, obtained a position with Microsoft Corporation. The reason was because Microsoft required individuals, with good writing skills, to assist them in writing the technical manuals for their computer software, and they needed English majors, to work with the software engineers, to write the manuals in specific terms that the general public would understand.

So, there are many options, for individuals, who possess an English degree.
Thank you comment icon Hi, Paul! It’s Samuel–thank you so much for this advice. I’ve always loved literature, reading, and writing, but I wasn’t sure those specific skills could translate to as many jobs as you listed. I’ll definitely keep them in mind as I continue my undergraduate career, and later, a career search or pursuit of postgraduate education. Have a great day. Samuel
