Are there certain internships or volunteer opportunities that are good to get experience in your field before graduation?

I'm planning on going into communications and specifically in media management.

Hello, Arielle !

I would be happy to advise you on doing something towards a media management career before college ! You wouldn't be able to do hands on work, but just being around your medium of choice would give you great insight.

So, which medium do you see yourself in for the future career ? Television, radio, web tech, newspaper, magazine, film ? You would not yet be doing an Internship just yet. Internships are usually for college students in their Junior and Senior years when they've received foundational courses and also for students after they've graduated. So, think Volunteer Work and you will most likely be able to keep busy till college.

In order to manage a station, production company or paper/magazine, web podcasts or sites, you will have to learn it inside and out. You didn't mention where your actual interest lies, but there are some television stations that you should visit to inquire about volunteer work. Introduce yourself as a future media major. The TV Stations in your area are located in Jonesboro, AR, and Memphis, TN. There are no film studios in Paragould, Arkansas. The radio stations are MOR Media Inc., KDRS Radio Station, and KDRS all in Paragould.

For web, you can take some online social media management classes such as one offered by Great Learning. Meta provides a free course on "Social Media Management" that focuses on creating, publishing, and managing content across platforms, with skills in strategy, engagement, and content planning. Google Digital Garage provides a free "Fundamentals of Digital Marketing" course that includes social media modules alongside topics like SEO, mobile marketing, and email marketing. Do a search online for more free classes.

For Newspaper, visit in person The Paragould Daily Press and speak with their Human Resources Department about doing volunteer work. So basically focus on the actual medium you want to have the career in and do a search online for companies and inquire about Volunteer Work. I would not suggest asking about Internships as many places do not oversee internships and you'd have to know an intermediate amount to do the work.

There are no Media programs, groups or summer camps or boot camps in or near Paragould.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
