Hello Brooke. One of the main similarities is the basic structure of classes. Just like in high school, you will attend classes, take notes, complete assignments, and take tests. Professors, like your high school teachers, are there to guide you, explain material, and answer questions. You will also need to study and do homework regularly to keep up with your courses, just like you do now. The difference is often in the level of independence, but the core idea of attending class and learning is the same.
Another similarity is the social environment. In high school, you have classmates, clubs, sports, and events that allow you to meet new people and make friends. College offers similar opportunities. You will have classmates in your courses, and most colleges have clubs, sports teams, student organizations, and campus events where you can connect with others who share your interests. Just like in high school, participating in these activities can make your college experience more enjoyable and help you build a sense of community.
Time management and responsibility are also similar. In high school, you are responsible for completing homework on time, preparing for tests, and keeping up with multiple classes. College is similar in that you will have deadlines, exams, and projects to manage. The main difference is that you will have more freedom and flexibility in your schedule, but the need to stay organized and manage your time well is just as important.

College and high school, depending where you attend they will feel real similar because the faces might be the same from the years prior. The first college I attended was away from home and only 1 friend from my high school attended the school with me. The second and third colleges I attended were close to the city I grew up in, so I saw a lot of "friendly" faces. Going to school and seeing faces that were familiar helped to bring that community feeling from high school to the college setting.
In high school and college you have classes that are required. In high school there is a set of classes you have to take every year to make sure you are eligible to graduate. College is similar but the class choices sometimes are more vast and there are more options then just Social Studies 1 or 2, you might have Women's Literacy, Religious Studies, or History from 1700-1900, etc. Although, there are still requirements for a particular major you get to decide which classes to take based on your interests. My sister who hated high school thrived in college due to the choices.
The one major difference between college and high school is you are more in control of your schedule, yes some classes are only available during certain times, days, or semesters (quarters) but you can decide if you really want that 8am class or prefer the 10am class instead. In high school you might have only one history teach, and if you are not that fond of them it doesn't matter but in college there may be 5 history teachers that all teach the same class now you can decide which teacher you would prefer to learn from. There is a bit more flexibility in college than you have in high school.
Wishing you best as you start the transition to college!
