What more should I have on my resume by the end of college?

I speak a second language, have an internship, and started and ran the student newspaper for my school, as well as four years of show choir and jazz choir, and I was part of the National Honour Society. I will be a freshman in college next year. What else can I do?

Great stuff Aubree. The only thing I can think of is volunteering. To make it even shiner on a resume create something where you volunteer that improves their service to the audience they serve.

I recommend your resume to have accomplishments, skills, internships, and any self improvement experience dating back 3 years. Most employers don’t see past the previous threes I. Areas of work experience, accomplishments, internships, and other areas!

Journalism is a great option. You obviously like to write and are involved and many different fields. Newspapers are pretty much gone so online is the way to go. Keep writing about what you know and your interests. And submit your writing to multiple online forums.

Hi Aubree. One important area is work experience. Internships are very helpful, so try to get more of them during college, especially in areas that interest you. You can also help professors with research projects or join study programs that give you hands-on experience. These activities will give you useful skills and good references for future jobs or graduate school.

Leadership and extracurricular activities are also important. You already led your school newspaper, which is great. In college, you can join clubs or other organizations, and try to take leadership roles like president or project leader. This shows that you can manage people, work in teams, and take responsibility.

Learning new skills is another way to improve your resume. Employers like people who know useful software, can do research, or have other practical skills. You could learn things like digital tools, or even earn certifications that match your interests.

Volunteering is another plus. Helping your community shows that you care about others and are responsible. Try to volunteer in areas that interest you, so it also connects to your goals or career plans.
