Hello, Joanna !

I will assume that you mean that you will be enrolling in a Cosmetology School so my advice will be geared towards that path. No one can tell you how often either written or practical exams will take place except the school staff during an orientation. Asking that question to them may indicate that you do not like tests, though. There are exams you will have to take in this path and then a State Exam for your license.

Students in cosmetology school are tested on a range of subjects including theoretical knowledge such as sanitation and safety practices, hair and scalp care, chemical processes, skin and nail care, and state laws and regulations concerning professional practices. How often you will be tested will depend on the school and the teachers, but it is known that you would be, in general, tested on a chapter to chapter basis. As you learn one subject in a chapter, you'd be tested on it. Most times at most schools, there is a written mid-term and final exams. When you do your actual hands on work on customers at the school, your teacher will look over your work and give you feedback before the customer leaves and may grade every service you perform. It's up to the particular school.

The best thing to do is to pick out a cosmetology school and register for an oreintation. It's kind of an awkward question, but you can be assured that there is a good deal of testing, evaluation and oversite during a cosmetology path.

Best wishes to you in all you do !
