Hi Veronica. It's normal to have trouble staying interested in general education classes, especially when the subject doesn't naturally grab your attention. Instead of trying to enjoy the class, you should focus on what you want to achieve. For example, your goal could be to pass the class, keep a good GPA, or improve skills like writing or thinking critically.
Making a study schedule is another helpful strategy. Even if the class isn't exciting, having a routine will keep you on track. You should set aside regular times each week to study just for that class. When studying becomes part of your routine, it's easier to keep up, even when you're not motivated.
You can also try to make the material more interesting, and look for ways the class connects to your life or future goals. For example, a history lesson can help you understand society, or a math concept can help you solve real-life problems. Active study methods work best. This includes writing notes in your own words, teaching the material to someone else, or making flashcards and quizzes. Doing something with the information instead of just reading it helps you remember it better.
