Start by connecting with those who are a few years ahead of you, around three to ten years, rather than just aiming for senior directors. Mid-level engineers can be especially helpful because they remember what hiring managers want, which skills are important, and what early mistakes to avoid.
Use five different channels: alumni from your school, LinkedIn, professors, internship managers, and engineering communities. Don't just send one message; focus on both quantity and quality. Try reaching out to ten people each week for four weeks.
Keep your messages short and specific. Explain why you chose them, what you hope to achieve, and suggest a small step forward, like a quick fifteen-minute call. Make it easy for them to say yes.

Suggest you start asking anyone you know in the engineering field who they recommend as a mentor for you. And if you can't find someone in technical engineering, go with someone recommended in another engineering field and you will probably learn from them also.

The way to approach this would be to start talking to people. If you do not know people, there are communities in linkedin etc. You can also look at some of the industries in your area that you can connect with.
