Graphic design is EVERYWHERE and so is AI. Set yourself apart by finding your niche and what you like to visually create. A good next step is to try it out. Take a design class. Watch tutorials. Create small projects. See how it feels over time, not just once. Walk through stores and look at packaging and designs. Then determine if that's something that still interests you. It's the words, photos, overall look and feel of the designs that help elevate this position. What type of design are you interested in is a good place to start!

Choosing a career in graphic design is a wonderful path if you love being creative and solving visual puzzles, and it's definitely a field that has a solid future as the world becomes more digital. To get started, most people either go for a four-year bachelor's degree or a two-year associate degree, though you can actually start building your skills right now in 12th grade by practicing with tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, or even free alternatives. In the day-to-day life of a designer, you'll spend your time taking ideas from clients and turning them into things like logos, social media posts, or website layouts, which means you're constantly getting to see your work out in the real world. While AI and new technologies are changing how designers work, they aren't replacing the need for a human eye that understands style and storytelling, especially in growing areas like motion graphics or app design. You've got plenty of time to build a portfolio of your best projects, so don't feel pressured to know everything on day one. You have a really exciting journey ahead of you and your artistic eye is a gift that will serve you well. Stick with it and good luck.

I'm not sure where you're from, but in the USA, you can choose between a 2-year or 4-year graphic design course. I studied in Portugal, and in Europe, it's usually 3 to 4 years. Studying graphic design is a lot of fun, but starting work can be a bit surprising since university projects tend to be more creative. Most people I know end up working either for marketing and publicity offices or work with social media management. There are also jobs in smaller and more creative design studios that work with visual identity, editorial design and web design.
After my graduation I took a 1 year course in UX/UI Design, which is a growing design field while graphic design seems to be a bit stuck and uncertain with the rise of AI. I would suggest you take a short course in platforms such as Udemy, Domestika, etc. to see if you actually enjoy what you study. I also suggest you to watch some videos of recently graduated graphic designers entering the market, this will probably give you a better perspective on it. Hope this helped and feel free to ask more questions :)
