Do y'all ever have anyone desiring to go into the funeral industry?
Hey, my name is Hampton. Many people call me Hamp for short. I am from Newberry, South Carolina, and am currently a senior at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina majoring in Business Administration. I have always had the desire to work in the funeral industry along with my dad. Have y'all ever had anyone else that has also chosen this career path?

Hey Hamp, that's really awesome. The funeral industry is a path people don't often talk about, but it's such important work. Many students, especially those studying business, choose this route because funeral homes are both service-oriented and family-run. You're definitely not alone in this.
It makes a lot of sense with a Business Administration major. Working in a funeral home involves management, finances, operations, customer care, and planning. This background can really help, especially if you want to work with your dad or take over one day.
It's great that you've always wanted to do this. That usually means a lot. The funeral industry needs compassion, professionalism, and emotional strength, and people who feel drawn to it are very important. It's not a common path, but it's respected and needed.

Hi Hampton,
Yes, there are definitely students who choose to go into the funeral industry. While it’s not as commonly talked about as some other careers, many people feel called to it, especially those who value service, compassion, and supporting families during difficult times.
Working alongside your dad is also something really special. The funeral industry is meaningful work as it it combines business skills, emotional intelligence, and community service. Your Business Administration major can actually be a strong advantage, especially if you plan to help manage or grow a funeral home.
You’re not alone in choosing this path. It takes maturity and heart, and that’s something to be proud of.

Hi Hamp. Your field of study is most definitely applicable to the funeral industry. Thankfully many funeral providers remain independent or small businesses that are very much community oriented and offer a necessary service that demands caring and compassionate skill sets. The knowledge you're gaining in studying business will definitely help you successfully run the family business should you decide to continue alongside your father and eventually take over. You are definitely well positioned to learn the softer side of the business from your father: the compassion, the community, the caring, the service. Should you go into the family business you will most definitely be providing a true and valued service to your community.
