How can I be successful as someone who is interested in agriculture and natural resource management?

Hello, my name is Alia I go to crane middle school and I enjoy working with plants and animals as well as I am Interested in working to conserve natural resources or protect the environment. My favorite hobbies are playing around with my pets aswell as I like to help my grandma taking care of our plants like watering them.
The career that seems the most interesting to me from the results is agriculture and food natural resources. Natural resources requires knowledge of engineering technology and biological science to agricultural problems concerned with power and machinery, electrification, structures, soil and water conservation, and processing of agricultural products and I have the skills for it.

Thank you comment icon I do not have direct advice. What I can say is take your science and math courses seriously. For future college exploration, it sounds like you may be interested in forestry! Mary Fregeau

Hi Alia, it's awesome that you already know what you're passionate about because loving plants, animals, and the environment at your age is a great foundation for a future in agriculture and natural resource management! To be successful in this field, maybe start by taking science classes seriously, especially biology and environmental science, because those will give you the knowledge base you'll need down the road. Look into joining programs like FFA (Future Farmers of America) or 4-H when you get to high school because they'll give you hands-on experience and connect you with mentors who work in agriculture and conservation. Also, keep doing what you're doing with your grandma and your pets because that real-world experience with plants and animals matters more than you think. When it's time for college, look into degrees in agriculture, natural resource management, or environmental science because schools like the University of Arizona have amazing programs in those areas. In addition, try to get involved in volunteer work with local farms, community gardens, or conservation groups in Yuma because that experience will look great on applications and help you figure out exactly which direction within the field excites you most. You've clearly got the passion and the curiosity for this so just keep learning and stay curious!
