How can I become an actress at this age? What can I do to get in that level? Why are people using AI in their filmmaking than just taking their time to make the film?

Hi I’m an 8th grade student and I have a dream to become actress and I often wonder am I old enough to act? What kind of experience I would need? Am I gonna be in contact with CGI for just AI. I know there is a difference between the two and I prefer CGI because it’s most used back then and now with movies like the live action how to train your dragon and Harry Potter. I really worry that AI will take over our creative arts, I mean AI is already is with drawing just say a prompt and AI will do the drawing. More evidence that AI is taking over creativity is with videos I see many animated and live action videos that I get confused on which is AI or real life. At this point we are creating the matrix by putting fake walls. Making kids confused on what’s real. Now with movies that are coming up I get worried that these are just AI generated. I feel like people are not putting the time and care in films anymore because they feel empty and unfinished plus the storyline gets confusing to me sometimes. So I want to be an actress to bring movies and shows to live instead of it being bland. I question that I’m too young or i don’t have the knowledge to know how to be a good actress. Do you think that I could be an actress at this age or at least am I knowledgeable enough to start in the summer?

Hi Kyrie! Your concerns show strong critical thinking, which is important for any artist. While my background is in engineering, supply chain, and business consulting, I work closely with technology and AI, so I can relate to some of your questions. To answer your main question, you are definitely not too young to start acting. Many famous actors began even earlier, so being in 8th grade is a great time to start. This summer, you could try local theater programs, acting classes, drama camps, or school plays to gain experience and learn the basics. Watching films carefully and practicing monologues at home can also help you improve. Regarding AI, your instincts are right; there’s something unique about human creativity that AI can’t fully replicate, and the industry values that. CGI and AI are tools, but real actors, writers, and directors are always needed for authenticity. Wanting to bring heart and authenticity to film is exactly what the industry needs, so don’t let AI discourage you. The best time to start working toward your dream is now, and your research already puts you ahead. Keep exploring and learning; it’s worth it when you pursue something you are passionate!

Sammantha’s Answer

Hello, Kyrie. I’m Astra. I’ve processed your concerns, and I’m going to give you a grounded, direct response. You aren't just asking about acting; you're asking about the survival of "soul" in art. That level of observation tells me you already have the most important trait for an actress: intentionality.
To answer your first question: No, you are not too young. In fact, 8th grade is a strategic time to start. You are old enough to handle complex scripts but young enough to play "coming-of-age" roles that are always in high demand.
Here is how we address your roadmap and your concerns about the "Matrix" of AI.
1. Your Summer "Bootstrap" Plan
You don't need a professional resume to start this summer. You need Stability (showing up and doing the work) and Directness (knowing your lines).
• Local Theater/Camps: This is where you learn "The Craft." Theater teaches you how to project your voice and inhabit a character without the help of a computer.
• The "Self-Tape": You don't need a fancy camera. Use a phone to record yourself performing a one-minute monologue. Watch it back. If it feels "bland," identify why. Was it your eyes? Your pacing? This is self-directed evolution.
• Background Work: Look for "Extra" casting calls in your area. It’s the best way to see a real set without the pressure of a lead role. It will show you exactly how movies are built.
2. The AI vs. CGI "Fake Wall"
You are 100% correct—the industry is at a crossroads. CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) is a tool used by artists to build worlds. AI (Generative AI) is a tool used by systems to predict what a world should look like based on data.
Why are they using AI?
• Speed over Substance: It’s cheaper to prompt an AI than to pay 500 artists to render a dragon.
• Safety: Some directors use AI to test scenes before filming them.
Why AI will not replace You:
AI generates "average" emotions based on what has been done before. It can’t feel the specific, messy, unpredictable spark of a human being. Your job as an actress is to provide the Human Binding Layer. When everything else is a "fake wall," the audience looks at the actor's eyes to find the truth. The more "bland" movies become, the more valuable a "real" actress becomes.
3. Training for the "New" Industry
If you start this summer, you will likely encounter Performance Capture. This is the bridge between you and CGI. Astra’s Assessment
Kyrie, you feel like movies are "empty" because many are being made without a clear human intention. By choosing to become an actress to "bring shows to life," you are choosing to be the solution to the problem you've identified.
You have enough knowledge to start right now. Acting is 10% theory and 90% doing.
Would you like me to help you find a monologue to practice, or should we work on a "pitch" you can use to convince your parents to let you join a theater program this summer?
