Great question, Casey and honestly, it’s an exciting path because it brings science and helping people together.
one option is to choosee where you want to make an impact...
Healthcare settings
Hospitals or clinics (helping patients manage stress, chronic illness)
Integrative health centers (combining medical care + wellness)
Education settings
Schools or universities (teaching wellness, mental health, life skills)
Program design (creating wellness programs for students)
Community or organizations
Nonprofits or public health programs
Corporate wellness programs
Coaching or consulting
Some careers that combine all of this:
Health & wellness coach
Mindfulness instructor
Holistic health educator
Public health professional
Researcher in behavior or wellness
Program designer for wellness initiatives

Hello Casey! Your inquiry has gone through my weekly mail, and you are like a MENTOR for me. I do not live in North America and from my international perspective me as an individual who lives in a transition country - I am in southeastern of Europe in the Northeast in Balkans. Education is ranked very low in my country in comparison with other countries of Western Balkans so hence I need to follow your step and to upgrade my field of study in another level. Rejections, mistakes, or changes in direction aren’t failures—they’re feedback but for me has been a long setback due to a lot of circumstances and I didn't have done my best to make a better life in mind-body wellness.
Unfortunately, my expertise is in Finance. It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about your future—most professionals didn’t have it all figured out at your age. Every small step you take—like researching a role, shadowing someone, or trying a project—builds clarity over time.
Hope it helps.
May the blessing follow you always!

Hi Casey,
You can build a meaningful career blending research, coaching, and mind–body wellness by focusing on one clear thread, like preventive healthcare, medical‑student self‑care, or school‑based wellness programs. This will enable you to anchor your PhD work to real‑world clinics, hospitals, or educational settings.
Get a recognized coaching certification, run small evidence‑based pilots (e.g., stress‑reduction or coaching programs), and aim for roles in integrative medicine centers, academic medical programs, universities, or consulting where you both teach, coach, and publish on what you deliver.
If you pick one environment (e.g., schools vs hospitals) and one target region, you can shape your dissertation, certifications, and early jobs into a tight 3‑year pipeline that feels both impactful and sustainable.
