Dear Tiana,
Missing the school internship program does not mean you lost your opportunity. Many students find summer internships by taking initiative and searching independently.
Here are some practical steps you can follow:
*Use platforms like LinkedIn, Internshala, and company websites to search for summer opportunities;
*Contact small companies or startups directly and ask if they accept interns;
*Prepare a simple CV and a short motivation message explaining your interest;
*Reach out to teachers, mentors, and professionals in your network for recommendations;
*Apply early and send multiple applications to increase your chances.
Useful platforms include LinkedIn, Internshala, AICTE Internship Portal, and company career pages.
Sometimes the best internships come from proactive outreach, not only formal programs.
Don’t be afraid to contact companies directly and show your interest.
Stay consistent and keep applying — opportunities often appear when you take the first step.

Clarify direction and goals :Pick 2–3 areas so you can tailor your CV, LinkedIn, and applications instead of sending generic ones.
CV/Resume: Include IB subjects, projects, competitions, leadership roles, and any volunteering or online courses. Highlight skills like Excel, presentations, or basic coding if you have them

To secure a meaningful summer internship, start by exploring fields that genuinely interest you. Having clarity on your interests helps you stay motivated and add real value during the internship.
Once you identify your areas of interest, research companies that offer services or products aligned with those fields. Proactively reach out to them—through emails, LinkedIn, or networking events—and express your interest and availability to work as an intern.
Before or during your engagement, make an effort to understand how the organization functions. Study their:
Business model
Systems and processes
Objectives and success metrics
As you observe, identify gaps or challenges within their workflow and think about how those gaps can be bridged. To do this effectively, you must first understand the company’s systems and processes and how they contribute to achieving business goals.
Work closely with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand real problem statements. Once you have clarity, propose solutions and demonstrate how you can contribute by following a structured approach to solve the problem.
When a company sees initiative, structured thinking, and a problem-solving mindset, it encourages them to onboard you as an intern and trust you with meaningful work.
Most importantly, deliver on what you promise. Consistent delivery and professionalism can make your internship a breakthrough opportunity—both for the organization and for your personal profile. A successful internship often becomes a strong reference point for future roles, job offers, or recommendations.
