First, create a list of fields/jobs that interest you. Secondly, confirm that you can make a living doing that. If you can't, then consider it a hobby and return to your list and consider another option for your vocation.
Salary will depend on many factors - location, education and experience. New York City is more expensive than Mumbai, India, so expect different salaries. Companies pay for knowledge and experience, so factor that into your analysis.
There are many web sites that provide salary ranges. Glassdoor, salary.com, Indeed are just a few. Also check with your school's career services (college) or guidance counselor (high school) for direction.

There are compensation figures available on line listed by industry and specific job. You can search the norms. I'd also consider benefits - companies offer a wide range of benefits that may, or may not, interest you. You may want to sacrifice money for satisfaction, or vice vesa.

Hi - I think people usually decide how much money they want to make by looking at two things: how much they need to live on and how much that type of job usually pays. It is not really about choosing a random number. Most people think about real expenses like rent, food, gas, bills, and savings, and then compare that to the salary a job offers.
I also think people sometimes take jobs that do not pay exactly what they want at first because they know the experience can help them move into better opportunities later. A starting job is often more about building skills, gaining experience, and proving that you are reliable.
So overall, I think deciding how much a job should make is really a mix of personal needs, the value of the job in the market, and the future opportunities that job can lead to. Hope this helps!

When searching for a job, it's important to consider more than just the salary. Make sure the job and field interest you, or you might end up with a well-paying job that you dislike. Aim for a job that is both well-paying and interesting to you.
