Shelby’s Answer

So, I have a few pieces of advice to give for this one.

First, try and differentiate as many assignments, assessments, homeworks, etc. as you can. Not only is this giving students a bit more say in their education (which they seem to greatly appreciate), but it also gives all students the opportunity to learn. This is because differentiation gives multiple choices for students to show comprehension/mastery of concepts.

Another way to get students more motivated to learn is to build a positive and exciting classroom environment. If students walk into a classroom with a boring desk arrangements, a bunch of harsh/restrictive rules posted everywhere, and a teacher who looks/acts miserable, students will dread coming to class. But, if a teacher makes their classroom comfortable, gives students reciprocated respect, and allows them to have a voice in their education, then they'll be eager to attend class.

My final piece of advice is to be yourself. Students are abnormally perceptive. They can tell when you're trying to act too tough or too cool. They can relate more if you just be the real you! And that will definitely make them more motivated to be in your class. Hope this helps!

Think about how you can keep kids get really involved in whatever your topic might be. Try to encourage them to learn from each other and build in small incentives to build successful students.

Depending on their level, ask your students what they believe a successful teacher does. Just by asking their opinion, you will be learning what's important to them.

Simply believe in yourself and know that you will be making an impact on many lives.

With every good wish!
