What are some not very well known tips on how to get through college? (I don't mean ones such as "work on time management" or "make as many friends as you can", I mean very niche ones that are just as important).

I am a senior in high school, and I graduate in less than a month and I'm going to college at Tulsa Community College, taking a mix of online and in person classes. I am looking for tips that will potentially help me get through college, whether that be at home related or school related.

This is an important and smart question. Many people overlook that college is not just about classes, but also about the people you meet through clubs and organizations. I suggest you explore different groups in your field or other student organizations that can introduce you to events you might not know about. You can find these through the student affairs center or other campus groups. At home, remember you are a role model. Giving back to your community can open up more opportunities for you in the future.

My best advice is to try and make at least one friend in each class. It takes effort and "putting yourself out there," but it can be so helpful if you miss a class and need someone to text or email to understand what you missed or what is due. It is also great to have a friend and buddy in class to sit with or chat with even if they won't be a life long friend but someone you know and will see around campus/virtually. I also think that going to office hours whether it is with your professor or TA is also sooo helpful. They have different time carved out and can really help you understand the material and ask questions if you don't feel comfortable in class. It helps you get to know them 1:1 and also develops a rapport with them.

Congratulations on your upcoming Journey.

The biggest advice I can give you after working with my 3 kids through college is understand no matter what others have convinced you every decision, every turn is the most important one and you need to handle it all and drive it it exactly the right way or life as we know it will end. I can absolutely assure you it will not.

With my kids as well as a lot of other your people in high school or college I have worked with or mentored the biggest hindrance I have seen is undo pressure being put onto the students usually by themselves or this unrealistic idea that they should know how to engineer the rest of their lives or get everything just right. This not only affects your work adversely but also your mental health and your enjoyment of what should be one of the best periods of your life.

I hope this helps and I wish you an incredible college experience that no matter what comes next you can always look back to and smile.
