How do I not get stuck again?

I’m planning on going back to school for a second bachelors. How can I further my education affordably and still grow my career? The internship I took directly after graduation didn’t amount to anything and my degree hasn’t helped me get a job.

Hi Alexis,

No worries! I don't think it was a waste of time to do an internship. I think every work you do is good experience. You can do some courses in the internet. Here are some resources:
Coursera
Udemy
Alison
edX
You can check within your state to check to see if there's any free training/apprenticeship program opportunities.

Hi Alexis,

I completely agree with Isida—challenges are just feedback to help us grow. From your situation, it's clear that a bachelor's degree alone may not guarantee a job. However, this is a chance to explore new opportunities.

Have you thought about looking for jobs outside your chosen field? Many entry-level positions require a degree but not a specific major. In my experience managing customer service and sales teams in tech and digital advertising, our team members had degrees in various fields like English, Accounting, and Political Science. Gaining a couple of years of work experience could be really beneficial before considering more education.

Wishing you the very best in your journey,

Kara

Isida’s Answer

Hello Alexis,
Your inquiry has gone through my weekly mail. You are like a mentor to me, and connections matter as much as skills. Reach out to Career Village as often as possible if you’re curious about. A short message asking for advice can open doors. Rejections, mistakes, or changes in direction aren’t failures—they’re feedback. Each challenge teaches you something about yourself and the world of work. The most successful people you admire have faced setbacks, too; what made them stand out was persistence and the ability to learn from each experience. Actually, I am in the same position as you - I am unemployed and I am looking to further my studies. From my international perspective, because I live in South-Eastern Europe (Western Balkans), I have stuck with the same as you because of the job crisis and the higher rate of unemployment in my country, so I am thinking of having another master's related to my background. This may open up other opportunities for me. So every small step you take—like researching a role, shadowing someone, or trying a project—builds clarity over time. Go ahead with your plan and don't give up.
Hope it helps. May the blessing follow you always.
