How can I figure out what to major in during college that will connect to a career I am passionate about?

I am a senior in high school, graduating in a few weeks. I am a fairly well-rounded individual so I do not have one clear choice for my future and need advice.

Thank you for your question. Firstly, you have to find out what careers you have interest.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Think about what you have interest, eg your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc and identify the related careers
Eg If you like mut, would you like to be a musician, singer, musical artist, music composer, music producer, etc
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counselor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Josh’s Answer

Finding the perfect career path isn't easy, and I struggled with it for a long time. Looking back, here's what I would have done differently:

1. Know yourself better. Think about what makes you happy, what feels easy, and where you feel you make a difference. Consider what activities you naturally gravitate towards or wish you had volunteered for. Listening to yourself can help you find your path sooner.

2. Take risks earlier. I often played it safe and followed others' suggestions about what I'd be good at, like sales or medical sales. While I was good at these, they didn't excite me. I wish I had pursued what I enjoyed, even if it paid less.

3. Dive into your passion. Once you know what makes you happy, learn as much as you can about it. Even if you can't work directly in your dream job, find ways to stay connected. For example, if you love basketball but can't play professionally, consider roles like selling tickets or working for a related company. You might discover new interests along the way.

4. Be open to different opportunities. As you explore your passion, master one area and then look for new angles. If you get tired of one role, think about related fields. For instance, if you're tired of sales in basketball, consider working for a company that supplies basketball gear.

When choosing a focus in college, think about the type of work or industry you want to be part of, and dive in.
