If you're thinking about becoming an Athletic Therapist after high school, a great way to start is by enrolling in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology or Athletic Therapy. It's best to pick a program accredited by your country's governing board, like the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association in Canada or the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education in the U.S., where it's called Athletic Training. While you're in high school, focus on getting good grades in biology, chemistry, physics, and advanced math, as these subjects are important for your future studies.

If you can't get into an athletic therapy program right away, you can first earn a four-year degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or Health Sciences, and then pursue a post-graduate certification or Master's degree. You'll also need about 1,200 hours of hands-on experience, working in orthopedic clinics and as a first responder at sports events. After finishing your accredited degree and practical hours, you'll just need to pass a national board exam to start practicing.
