Pay attention to taking notes in class and join some clubs. Playing a sport or trying a new one is good because colleges like to see you involved in athletics, which looks great on applications. Get more involved in school activities by joining clubs like the student council. Also, think about what career interests you, like medicine or technology, so you can pick classes that help you get ready for the future.

Props to you for starting this early! It's been a few years since I took the PSAT but at that time, the College Board website had lots of free practice tests for the SAT and subject SATs. I would start by exploring their website and seeing if they have any practice tests for the PSAT as well. The PSAT won't be much different from the SAT, so if you could start taking SAT practice tests as well and getting familiar with the format and content. However, don't be discouraged by unfamiliar topics. You have a few more years to learn! Keep in mind that colleges value tests scores differently and people also perform differently under test settings, but if a higher SAT score aligns with your goals, keep being proactive and consistent. Practice pays off!
