What jobs would be good for me?

I am a 16 year old high school student looking into what I should either go to college for or what type of job I should search for in the future. I like being physical throughout the day and I would like a job with variety. I want to be able to make decent money as well though. What jobs would be good for me? How would I find one of those jobs? Why do those jobs fit what I would like to do? What does the job entail?

You've already identified a few things that matter to you: staying active, having variety in your day, and earning a good living. Because of that, I'd look into skilled trades (electrician, HVAC, plumbing), firefighting, nursing, construction management, or certain sales roles. These careers are hands\-on, involve problem\-solving, and often pay very well.

My advice is to talk with people in careers that interest you and, if possible, shadow them for a day. At 16, you don't need to have everything figured out. Focus on exploring careers that match your interests, and the right path will become much clearer over time.

Hi Aiden,
It's fantastic that you are already thinking about your future and know what you enjoy, being active, having variety in your day, and aiming for a good income. These are excellent starting points for choosing a career path.

Here are some options that might match your interests as per being physical active:

1. Skilled Trades (Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter): Engage in hands-on work with diverse projects. These jobs pay well once you are trained and licensed.

2. Healthcare Support Roles (Paramedic, Physical Therapy Assistant): Stay active and work closely with people, facing new challenges every day.

3. Construction & Engineering Technician: Work on building sites and in teams, keeping tasks interesting.

4. Law Enforcement or Firefighting: Challenging careers focused on community service, with good pay and benefits.

5. Logistics & Transportation (Commercial Driver, Supply Chain Roles): Enjoy movement, problem-solving, and varied tasks.

6. Outdoor Careers (Park Ranger, Environmental Technician, Agriculture): Stay active while working in nature.

How to explore these jobs:

1. Talk to your school's career counselor about vocational programs or dual-enrollment options.

2. Consider apprenticeships, many trades offer paid training as you learn.

3. Volunteer or shadow professionals to get firsthand experience.

4. Check online job boards like Indeed or local government sites for entry-level opportunities.

Why these jobs fit you:

a. They keep you physically active.

b. They offer variety each day is different.

c. They lead to good pay as you gain experience or certifications.

What the jobs involve:

1. Trades: Installing, repairing, or building, often outdoors.

2. Healthcare Support: Responding to emergencies, assisting patients, or helping therapists.

3. Construction/Engineering: Using tools and teamwork to build or maintain structures.

4. Public Service: Protecting communities, responding to emergencies, and staying fit.

My Personal Advice: Since you are 16, try short courses, volunteering, or part-time work to explore your interests. This will help you decide if college, vocational training, or direct entry into the workforce is right for you.

You are asking the right questions at the right time, and your curiosity will guide you to a career that suits your strengths and lifestyle.

Wishing you clarity and confidence as you explore your options.
