Should I drive over to main campus or take a shuttle?

I have been placed about 20 min away from the main campus and I will have my car.
What are the advantages/disadvantages you can think of if I just take the shuttle over rather than my own car everyday?

Taking your own car offers you a little more freedom as far as when you come and go, storing stuff in your car, etc. but the shuttle may make things easier - since you don’t have to pay for parking or search for it, you may meet people on the shuttle and of course it’s better for the environment.

Hi Annmarie!

Parking can be expensive as a student so first and foremost, if you need to be economical, think about the added cost of parking (both at your residence and on campus if you need a permit) and gas. If you decide you can afford the car though, it can definitely make more places easily accessible to you, which won't just help socially but also even for pursuing career opportunities (if that's part of your plan) further away from school.

Actually, in some situations, getting a car can actually save money because you can pay less money to live further from campus, if the car lets you commute. That said, a lot of schools allow give students free or cheap access to public transportation systems all around the city, so consider that this might also eliminate your need for a car.
