David’s Answer

Hi Joshua,

Basically, earning money as a professional photographer is the same as any other job. You produce images for your client and the client pays you for those images. You can do that as an employee(staff photographer) or as an independent contractor( freelance photographer). This becomes your main source of income when you can support yourself with the income you generate from producing images.

I am a freelancer. That means I have to find my clients, produce the images they require and bill the client for my service. Some clients give me assignments on a regular basis, weekly or monthly, some only use my services on occasion. In order to make a living, I need to have quite a few clients so I'm not going long periods of time without income.

I hope this helps you out with your question. Best of luck to you.
