Welding is a very desirable skill-set today & the US Bureau of Labor Statistics expects it to continue to grow 25+% over the several years. You can also apply the skills toward working with metal as an art-form. If you like welding find a great school close to your home & go for it!!

Follow the safety best-practices religiously. Especially the face and eye protection. I don't have any experience with this line of work, but I've met plenty of people with vision damage who regret being lax about safety early in their careers.
