Harold’s Answer

That is a very good career path at the present time. There is a shortage of electricians and technicians. There are multiple career paths. I was a electrical technican that installed and maintained electrical control systems. I found that interesting and there should be jobs available if you get a little training for it. In many electrical jobs you will need to get a license, which takes several years of apprenticeship and training. If you join the electrical workers union they will provide apprenticeship work and training for the license. Another way is find a local trade school or technical college that offers and electrician or an electrical technician course. That is more costly but will probable give you better skills and higher pay in the long run. I have worked as an industrial control technician, which does not require an license. You may be able to get a job as a apprentice, but it better take a one or two year technical course to learn the skills, then find a job. After you get through the first 6 months of your course you can probably get a job and work while you go to school. That is what I did.

Harold recommends the following next steps:

Search job listings for electrician apprentices.
Go to the local electrical union office and talk to them.
