how hard is it to design a game

start with either c or c++ , later learn different language(like C# for unity, Python for Godot).. Start with 2d games with engines like Construct 2 or Game maker Studio if you want to make simple games without programming(Its drag and drop but you still need to setup logic for everything , though it will be easy compared to writing codes) or you can directly can jump into 3d game engines.(like Unity, unreal engine, Gadot, Cryengine).
If you do want to make advanced games later, then start simple.Something like pong is already pretty hard to make when you're just starting.

Later you can start learning or better say Using bigger game engine( if you started with 2d engine) like unreal engine or Unity(You will have learn c# for unity) if you have done enough with construct 2 or game maker studio.

You will also have to learn something like blender or Maya if you want to make 3d games to make assets and animation.

The last tip: start small and finish your first game. This will give confidence and will make you want to do more.
