To become a pharmacist, you need to graduate from a 4-year college, and obtain a PharmD, or doctorate of Pharmacy degree. Often times, college students can start a four-year pharmacy program after successfully completing 2 years of undergraduate coursework and earning a passing score on the PCAT (Pharmacy college admission test). In total, it takes about 6-8 years of education.

Once licensed, pharmacists can choose from a variety pharmacist jobs, such as working in retail pharmacies, hospitals, corporations, and long-term care facilities.

However, note that a pharmacist is not the same as a pharmacy technician, and the information above is for a pharmacist. Pharmacists are typically responsible for overseeing the work for pharmacy technicians.

My best advice to you is get a job in a pharmacy as a tech. Right now I would suggest hospital or retail. You might learn a little more in a hospital, but having the experience will tell you if you want to be a pharmacist or not.
