What environmental engineering fields incorporate foreign languages?

I am wanting to study German and Environmental Engineering at university this fall. I am pretty quick to pick up languages and I can speak Mandarin, French and German. I was wondering how useful languages can be in different engineering fields. #college #engineering #engineer #language #foreign-languages #environmental-engineering

There is already a large population of German owned companies doing business in the US and German is already a popular foreign language among US citizens so there is more competition for the jobs requiring these skills. On the other hand, investment by Chinese (Mandarin speaking) companies in the US market and conversely US companies in the Chinese market is on the rise and demand for bi-lingual employees is increasing as well.

Kai’s Answer

Interpreting, understanding and applying environmental regulations is already a foreign language to most American managers and that is why they hire Environmental Engineers. Foreign owned companies doing business in the US need multi-lingual employees to help them navigate and understand the complex regulatory environment in the US. Knowing a foreign language expands the possible employment opportunities to other countries either as an employee of a US or foreign firm.
