Hi Shalika

I am assuming that you are referring to Civil Services in India when you speak of becoming an IAS Officer. But your use of hashtag with military makes me unsure. I will answer your question with the assumption that this is specific to the Republic of India

There is state level service that you can apply to and then there is the exam conducted by UPSC every year.

First you need to ask yourself Which subjects are your strong points and decide on your Optional paper accordingly. After you clear your Prelim examination (MCQs) you will have a few months to prepare for the 'Mains' - Subjective papers where you will have to rush across time to put across your points on various topics. The last 2 papers will vary depending upon your choice of subject.

There is also a language paper that you need to clear. You can check past papers to decide on which language you want to take up.

Assuming you clear the Prelims, you will be able write the Mains exam. If you clear this as well you will be called to an Interview round. The seats are extremely limited vis-a-vis the people attempting the exam. Its also easy to get overwhelmed by the vastness of the syllabus. Stay determined and use the links below to give yourself an idea of the direction you want to take. There is no one 'right way' to crack the UPSC exams -
