Becoming a wedding planner is having your own business. Your the boss you market and manage the own business your are selling yourself as an event planner to potential customers. Wedding planners are event planner. If you like coordinating activities, dealing with people on a daily basis, creative problem solver and a multitasker Wedding planner is for you. Education prep could/maybe a two year degree from a junior college in business general, business management, marketing and accounting. Because you want "Wedding Planner" that tells me you want to work for yourself. The characteristic to be successful business person would be a self-starter, people person, attention to detail are just a few. Are there any Wedding/Event Planners in you city or state you can talk with? On YouTube and other career path site there are several videos of Wedding/Event planners talking about their background. Gosh I wish I could talk to you live to learn about your interests in this business keep in mind this is a very rewarding career but also very demanding. You will have to deal with all types of vendors; flower arrangements, locations/venues, cost upfront, carters, your staff and time management. Keep in mind you will only get paid a % of the total cost of the wedding event. That means some of your Wedding Planner business money will have to be used to from your own money at time before you get paid. You get paid last! You must know how to write up and sign vendor contract. Business Contracts for your clients. You will need a good credit score rating if your want a small business loan. YOu may need certain types of insurance to protect your self and employees. You will need a business license from your city or state. As you business grows you will need a website to advertise. An advertisement/marketing plan. These forms are all over the internet. You might have to have some kind of clause in your contract that your get paid in full the remainder of the money dues. It's a bit complicated. Good luck!

Darcel recommends the following next steps:

Look up on the Department of Labor careers, occupations and training for Wedding/Event Planners also other site online have description, skills, level of training and cost
Talk to as many wedding planners as you can locally those who are 10-15 years of experience, 5-8 and newbies.
Better become intern for free with a wedding planner for one day to see what it entails.
Become a wedding planner personal assistant paid/volunteer experience in business is the best teacher learn someone else pluses and minuses.
Learn on the job. Advance degree for event planner etc is the Hospitably, restaurant degree. It shows you the business side!
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much for the information and I'll definitely talk to a wedding planner if I can. Cleshawna

Wilson G. C’s Answer

What you need to do to become a wedding planner is quite a nice question, but I would suggest few ways it worked for me.

1. You need to always be seen in events that you do much want to be great in.

You need to be there always early, and watch how things are set and prepared.

2. Make plans to meet with good planners and ask for a feature maybe for 2 or 3 events.

3. Start the broadcast for a wedding plan events and get lots of views and patronize, but if you don't have 100% experience, your collaboration with a great event planner or a friend will buy u much experience.

It worked for me, it will work for you.

Wedding planning can be an absolutely rewarding profession but also very stressful! If you want to start learning the in's and outs of wedding planning and event planning in general, I'd suggest going out there and looking for some experience. You can volunteer at local events to get an overall exposure for events and also find a part-time or casual job at a local venue that host a variety or events (hotels, entertainment venues, restaurants) or a private venue that specializes in weddings. Hands on experience is one of the most valuable things you can do for an event planning future. Hospitality experience is also one of the most powerful tools you can have for event planning, so don't shy away from it.
