Dada’s Answer

Many chefs perform administrative duties such as preparing budgets and ordering supplies for pastry making. Once pastry chefs are established in their careers for a number of years, they may also be expected to supervise apprentices and teach coursework relevant to their chosen trade. A degree or a diploma in Culinary Arts is always an added advantage.
Meanwhile its always wise to seek an opinion from your local reputed restaurants esp the business aspects & payscale to give you better perspective . The average salary for a veteran chef is between $60,000 and $90,000 - This is again an average of a chef who own and operate their own successful restaurants & bakeries, however, have the greatest potential among their peers for earning higher salaries.

David’s Answer

Chefs when you are starting out, especially if you have little to no experience in a professional kitchen will make 8-12$ per hour. As you move up it'll grow, it also depends on the kind of kitchen your in and the price point of the menu. Once you make it to Sous Chef or Executive Chef then you make a fairly good living depending on the type of restaurant you end up in a high end one 55-80k plus bonus and some as high as 100k hotels pay better usually and have continued education benefits where they will pay for classes to further your skills.
