Great Question. This answer can vary depending on if you want to become an elementary school teacher, a high school teacher, a special education teacher, foreign language teacher...etc. You are going to need at least a Bachelor's degree to become a teacher and obtain licensing. Here is a list of possible classes you may need to take to become a teacher: Early Childhood Development, Instructional Planning, Teaching Methods for English, Math, Science and Social Studies, Psychology, Classroom Management, Special Education Courses, History of Education. There will always be general education classes, core education classes, subject specific classes and don't forget student teaching for that hands on experience!

Hello!
This is a great question! I feel like first you will need to decide what kind of teacher you want to be. Whether that is a specific subject, elementary or special education. Once you have that decided it will be a lot easier to figure out what classes you need to take! Once you are enrolled in a University you can talk to a counselor there and they will be able to guide you. They will typically have a degree path for specific degrees. Then you will just need to make sure you complete all the courses on the list and complete some student teacher. Then once you graduate and you have passed the required tests needed for the state you plan on teaching in and you have completed student teaching. You will get to become a teacher!
Hope this helps!

Hi Jahmir,

I hope you’re doing well & wish that you have a great week ahead.

Since you are from Georgia I am sharing information that pertains to Georgia to answer your question

All states require that prospective teachers have at least a Bachelor’s Degree to and complete a state-approved teacher preparation program to receive certification. Some states also have specific course and credit-hour requirements.

Teacher education programs generally consist of two elements— curricula and fieldwork. Curricula generally includes instruction on teaching fundamental skills, pedagogy (the science of teaching) and preparing students to research, design and implement learning experiences in their field of study. Fieldwork often includes field observations, internships, student teaching or a combination of all three.

Check with your teacher preparation program or the Department of Education for more information about specific requirements. Georgia does not list specific course or credit hour requirements, but every college or university teacher preparation program will have requirements of its own. Contact your teacher preparation program or the Department of Education for more information.

Georgia Teacher Certification Programs
Teacher Certification Programs can be taken online or on-site. They typically include an educational theory and classroom skills seminar and a fieldwork component of student teaching in the area. A list of accredited teacher preparation programs in Georgia can be found on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website (https://www.gapsc.com/EducatorPreparation/ApprovedPrograms/EducationApprovedPrograms.aspx )

Earning an education degree is the first step toward a fulfilling career as a teacher. An online teaching degree allows paraprofessionals to gain the credentials necessary for earning a teaching license while continuing to work full time. Students pursuing an education program online receive the same quality education as in on-campus classes.

All education programs in the state of Georgia that lead to teacher certification are approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Students who are enrolled in an education program outside of Georgia may still seek teaching certification in Georgia if their academic program is approved by the college or university's state and prepares its graduates for state certification. Students residing in Georgia who are enrolled in an out-of-state online program may have the option of completing their student teaching requirements at a Georgia school.

GaPSC provides three induction pathways for students seeking initial teaching certification. Graduates of an education program in Georgia qualify for the first induction pathway; graduates of an out-of-state program who completed their student teaching in Georgia qualify for the second induction pathway; and graduates who completed their entire program including student teaching in another state qualify for the third induction pathway. While certification requirements differ across states, GaPSC provides alternative routes to certification for out-of-state or international educators.
