Hi Rosemary --

I think the greatest challenge to getting into the sports entertainment industry is everyone wants a job in this business. This is one industry that appeals to most people. There are a great majority trying to get into the business because they want to be in front of the camera (i.e. talent, announcers, sideline reporters, etc.). There are many opportunities in this business that is not in front of the camera. Don't get me wrong, the competition is there for most areas in the sports industry, but, with determination you can find your way into this industry. My suggestion is during your college career get as much exposure as possible in the business through internships, volunteering, etc. Do as much networking as possible in your area through local television stations, radio stations, production houses, sports teams (amateur, minor, majors), local college athletic departments, etc.
Whether your are a writer (sports journalists), mathematician (stats), computer technology, production, etc., there are so many ways you can find your niche in the sports entertainment industry. I have worked in this business for many years and I can honestly say I love it. Going to work each day is so much fun. If this is the field you want to be in, you can do it. Just keep yourself current and involved as much as possible.

I wish you the best in whatever area you decide to pursue.

Karen
