Glenn’s Answer

Gloria, programming and mechanical engineering have some interesting overlap. CAD (Computer Aided Design) and Analysis Software requires understanding of Mechanical Engineering. Analysis software would include FEA, Tolerance Analysis, CFD, Mold flow. I expect that this area will continue to expand.

If you get involved with manufacturing automation, a lot of times the mechanical engineers are involved in programming the automation equipment. Getting the timing right for each step is critical to have the line work correctly.

As Rizwan also stated, Robotics may also an area that the mechanical engineers need to do programming.
