Hi Imani!

Excellent question! You know, the person who inspired me the most to pursue STEM were my parents. Not brilliant scientists or smart people I've met in class/college. It's the people who raised me and led me towards STEM since day one that inspired me the most. I was lucky that I had such hard working parents. My mom and dad were both born really poor in China. They struggled up the education system with barely enough to eat but still managed to survive out of college. They came to the US for grad school with minimal English skills and only $100 in their pockets. Day in and day out, my mom would read the dictionary just to understand what her teacher was saying (imagine learning Graduate level biology courses with English as a second language, absolutely terrifying).

I'm forever grateful that my parents worked so hard to give me a better life. Nothing I ever do will repay them and the only thing I can do is work just as hard to achieve the same for my kids.

Regardless of family inspirations, I think being part of the field that advances the human race is inspiring in itself. Whether its working on helping people travel the stars or cure diseases to help save millions of lives, the STEM field is extremely rewarding regardless of what you will do.

Good luck with your decision on picking what particular discipline to learn :)
