When pursuing a career in Civil Engineering is better to specialize in one specific topic, or to have a broader overview?

I know that civil engineering is just a basic overview of most types of engineering, but i don't know if getting a degree in just generic civil engineering is better than a degree in a specific area of civil engineering. #civil-engineering

all engineering degrees in civil involve taking a one of everything course wise so as a general engineer you know how to work on a team involving many disciplines (soils, hydraulics, structural, materials, water, wastewater). If you find one area of special interest you might take one extra course to expand, say steel and concrete structural. Most who want to specialize go to grad school to really expand a specific area.
Taking a one of each also allows you to see what each topic is like and will be useful when you take to team experts.
General is better since school undergrad courses offered limit your ability to concentrate, they only offer one of each..
