Video game companies can be fickle when hiring people. Most of the time, unless you are part of some kind of internship, they require the applicant to already have skills that can help in their line of work. Most companies are not looking to hire brand new people which they have to train up, which costs time and resources to do, they want to hire the best of the best. This can sometimes depend on what it is you are actually trying to do. Are you trying to be a game programmer, a voice actor, narrator, designer, etc? Depending on the job, it can drastically change on what your next steps would be.

For some people, they will go to a school that teaches how to create game designs to help build hard skills that can get their foot in the door for game development. Others may try to invest their time and money into buying equipment to work on much smaller projects with smaller companies/teams that are looking for anybody to hire, even somebody without the initial skillset but at least has a somewhat idea of what to do.

Basically, if you are skimming through this response, it all comes down to the amount of skills and experiences that a person has. The more you have, the easier it is in order to find a job in a gaming company.

Hi Jose,

Because hiring companies can change quite frequently, I recommend creating a LinkedIn account where you can see which video game companies are hiring. This will also allow you to see details about these jobs - pay, description, requirements, etc. I would take notes on what degrees or requirements they're seeking, so you can pursue those prior to apply to these jobs. You may have to get certain certificates, or start off in an internships in order to gain the proper experience. As you build a portfolio of experience, more opportunities will become available to you.

Best of luck!
